At Work
Many people spend more time at work. Nevertheless, there are some ways due to which you can be more active: - Go for a walk in your lunch break. Find at least three different gaits and change them during the week. - Arrange your meetings with clients and colleagues “on the hoof”. It is excellent way of discussing some work options or breaking the ice with new clients. Besides, walking around the local park is more pleasant rather then in the office. - Talk to your employers about providing health at work. For example, you can ask if it is possible to provide showers and cycle racks. Also you may ask if it is possible to set up a gym. - Walk to your work and come back home also on foot. If you live too far from your work, you can park further from the office or get off the bus or tube one stop earlier.
When You are Looking After the Child
- Exercise with your child. Play with them in the garden or in the local park. - Search for local sports centers where you can exercise while your children are being looked after. - Walk your child to school. This will make you active and help to develop an early pattern of physical activity in your children.
If You are a Student
- Go for walks with your friends to talk about your studies and not only. - Take part in college sports and exercise programs. - Spend some time in the resource centers reading about exercise, sport and health. The more you know, the more choices you have about how to be physically active.
If You Spend Most of Your Time in the House
- Try to plan your week so you have to go shopping frequently. - Use the stairs to exercise, hide the remote control for the TV or think out any others additional activities. Use your imagination. - Search for community-based activity programs in your local area. This can be anything that will get you moving.
